The young woman shoved her aviator sunglasses up onto her head as she stepped into the diner. The Rottweiler cross watched her concernedly through the glass door. The raven haired girl glanced over her shoulder and offered the dog a reassuring smile. Chessa seemed to heave a sigh, then wandered to the side, out of the way of the door, and curled up, dropping her head on her paws to wait for her mistress to return.
She turned and wandered over to the counter, not looking like she really had much of a destination in mind. She glanced up at the menu on the board. "I'll take a hamburger, just ketchup, and an order of curly fries, please" she told the little teeny-bopper at the counter. The girl scribbled furiously on her pad and nodded. Shalane paid her and wandered over, flopping into a booth by the window.
Her thoughts wandered as she watched the traffic. Not that there was much. Especially when one compared it to LA. LA was a city. Kadin was a one horse town, but Shalane found that she liked it here. The small town atmosphere was amazing, the way everybody knew everyone else and the Southern hospitality people showed even to strangers. In LA, no one ever would have held the door for her, as someone had just the other day when she went into the tack shop, and nobody would have nodded at her on the street, or waved, or smiled. The first few times someone had done so, especially men, it had freaked Shalane out a little bit. No one did that in LA unless they took a special interest in you, and interest was bad. It hadn't taken her long, though, to figure out that people here were just friendly. It was what they did, who they were, and she was finding herself falling in love with the little town. Not to mention being in prime horse country was nothing short of Heaven on Earth for the young equestrian. Not in her wildest dreams had she imagined herself doing so well here. It was fantastic.

Alayna was only sixteen. She could not deal with the situation she was in. It seemed like her whole life was crumbling down around her, Shane standing at the center of this whole mess. Alayna stepped through the threshhold of his apartment, scared of what he would say. Shane had been known to beat up on Alayna before, but Alayna loved him she could never leave him regardless of the pains he put her through. That however was nothing to the pain he was about to put her through now. The handsome italian drunkard smiled when he saw Alayna and began talking to her in the slurr that she knew only too well. This was definetely not the time to tell him that she was pregnant, but before she could say anything Shane noticed the tear stains on her face. He demanded to know what was wrong and pushed her roughly up against a wall. Alayna began to cry but did not hesitate to tell him. That was her first mistake, she should never have told him. Shane started yelling at her, cussing up a storm. It was when the beating started that Alayna could forever be changed. Shane slamed Alayna up against a mirror and began slicing her with the shards that fell, a baseball bat was next. Shane had never wanted her, and he was going to make damn sure that she did not have the baby, whether it killed her to or not. Finally Alayna had gotten settled in. Moving over here from Italy was definetely something very different for her. In Rome the Vladimer family were well known for breeding steeplechase horses. Alayna had even brought over her favorite mare, Diamond in the Rough. The tall, thoroughbred, chestnut, mare had ended her career last year with a bad leg injury. She had broken her canon bone, and Alayna was dead set on getting her well again. In Italy Diamond was a champion, it was hard starting completely over in this new place and nobody knowing who Diamond was, or of the Vladimer stud farm. But then again it was also more than refreshing. Most the people in Italy knew that the Vladimer Stud farm was involved with the Italian mafia, that Alaynas father was killed by them. And the fact that her mother had commited suicide was definetely not a good thing to add to that list. Alayna had been happy to leave, selling all of her horses but Diamond, and bringing her Siberian Husky, Arctic Wolf mix Dahlia. Dahlia was pregnant and soon to have puppies, Alayna was really looking forward to that one. She had brought several of her families things from her home, but anything that she could not fit at the apartment at Riverside was left at the Farm. Now in the most capable hands. Now that everyone was settled in Alayna wanted to look around town. Alayna was so greatful to Kiliandra for allowing her to have the Breeding Manager position as well as allowing her to keep Diamond and work with her on her own time. Because of her bloodlines Diamond would make a great broodmare, Alayna had no intention of training or running the mares foals, so she would be more than happy to give them to Riverside. Alayna walked briskly allowing the spring air to flow through her long dark brown hair. She was wearing a speghetti strap and a pair of blue jeans, typical attire for her. Alaynas nice tanned Italian skin shone out against the sunlight. Dahlia walked slightly slower, not really wobbling, her belly almost stretching to the ground. Alayna could tell that it was bothering the noble headstrong dog, she was looking forward to Dahlia having her puppies. Less of a strain on everyone. As they reached the diner Alayna made a hand motion giving Dahlia a command, for she was a well trained dog, even though she listened to no one but Alayna. Dahlia looked at the Rottweiler a little nervously but did as she was told, laying down on the dogs other side, far from the door so she would not get in anyones way. Stretching out Alayna smiled as she saw Dahlia relax and take in the calm of them moment. Alayna walked into the diner, finding the waiter in a second and with a kind Italian accent ordered her food. May I have a hamburger, with some fries please. It wasnt really a question, but the waiter knew what she meant. Sitting down on the barstool Alayna noticed that there was only one other person in the diner with her, so she assumed the young woman was the owner of the dog. Is that Rottweiler a cross with a Shepherd? Shes a good looking dog. Alayna said trying to be nice and make conversation. ooc: done this is what Dahlia looks like.

Shalane glanced up as she heard the bell on the door jingle. She watched the young woman enter the diner and make her order, but was distracted for a moment by her cell phone buzzing. She shifted to pull it out of her pocket. She tucked a strand of dark hair behind her ear, tugging the royal blue Aeropostale shirt lower over her stomach, although a small amount of her midriff still shone, along with a few small stars on her stomach. The text was, of course, from Amelia, her little sister. Few other people ever took the time to text Shalane. The text was very formal, without slang or abbreviations, but Ammey always texted that way. She hadn't yet learned the virtues of shortcuts. The eleven year old had asked how Shalane was and wasn't she working at a new barn?
Shalane tapped out a quick reply. She was lovely and she had picked up a job at a new stable, one of the bigger ones in town. Of course, her sister wouldn't know the name "Lafayer" but Shalane had no doubt that the little blond would be looking it up on the internet the first chance she got. Boy wouldn't she be impressed when she saw?
Shalane smiled a little sadly as she looked at the picture of her and her sister that was her phone's screen, then quickly snapped it closed and glanced up as the young woman who had just walked in spoke to her from across the room, at the counter, asking about the dog.
Shalane smiled slightly. She loved that dog. She grinned at the compliment on Chessa's behalf. "Thanks. Honestly, I don't know what she is. I always assumed she was a Rottweiler lab cross, but there might be shepherd in there, too. I don't have a clue. I found her on the streets back in LA, just before I came here." She nodded a bit, shifting slightly on the bench, toward the young woman, so she was more open to the conversation. Blue eyes trailed out the window where the two dogs lay side by side. She gave an appreciative whistle as she caught sigh of the white dog. "She's a beauty, too" she said admiringly. She was an elegant, noble sort of dog, with the head of a shepherd or husky, though Shalane wasn't much of a dog person, so she couldn't have said for sure. The white dog made Shalane's little mongrel look humble in comparison, but, with a slight smile, Shalane knew that she wouldn't trade Chessa for an AKC dog ever. Chessa was the perfect dog for Shalane in pretty much every way. "What's her name?" Shalane asked curiously, obviously speaking of the dog...

When Alaynas order came up she greedily poured ketchup into one side so she could start eating up. That was just the way she was, she loved to eat. Being Italian that kind of came with the territory. "Thanks. Honestly, I don't know what she is. I always assumed she was a Rottweiler lab cross, but there might be shepherd in there, too. I don't have a clue. I found her on the streets back in LA, just before I came here." Alayna nodded taking another close look at the dog. Her strong eye could see the little Lab in the dog, but there was shepherd in her as well. She wasnt a bad looking dog, but not canine perfection either. Alayna smiled when she looked at Dahlia. The dog took no notice of her companion, just laid there bascing in the sun and relaxing. Bow did that poor dog deserved it. Hearing her being adressed again Alayna smiled. She was asking about Dahlia. Her name is Dahlia. Shes a husky and arctic wolf mix. Shes actually due to have puppies soon. I cant wait, it would end the stress on both of our cases. I brought both her and my mare here from Italy.
