Ben's a pretty big guy at 6'1, but he 'fits' his height very well, doesn't look at all lanky. His body has been hardened by years of work. The kind of 'buff' you won't get by just going to a gym. He's got medium length, dark brown hair, which he often wears gelled up, or if he's lazy, just leaves it flopping everywhere. He's got a rather lean face, with thickly lashed, blue-green eyes (they tend to change colour).

Benny walks like he owns the place. Naturally he just assumes a self-confident stance, with his muscular shoulders back and his head up. Generally he just opts for t-shirts (not too loose) and jeans, and oftens wears a loose silver chain around his neck. If you happen to see him shirtless (not all that uncommon) you'll also notice a pale scar about two inches long atop his left shoulder. A dingo bit him. Don't judge.

Ben's mother had run away from home at 17. Things had been ok for a while but ultimately she'd run out of money and had needed some quick cash. Her last resort was prostitution. Things had been ok for a while and she'd been getting enough money to rent a room, but after a while the inevitable happened and she wound up pregnant.

Things were tough for the first three months but she ended up being taken in by an older woman who had a similar story. She was urged by the woman to finish highschool, which she did, although it took time, for she needed to leave for a period of time when Ben was born. She did end up graduating though, and got a job as a secretary when little Kingy was just 10 months old.

Things started to get better. Benny's momma finally had enough to get her own little apartment. It wasn't in the nicest neighbourhood but it was finally her own place. From a very young age, Ben had needed to take responsibility for himself. He didn't have all that much of a childhood. His mother, although she was mentally stable, sometimes had little flashbacks to what she'd gone through and got upset or drank her troubles away, and from the age of about five, he was looking after her and comforting her when this happened.

When he was about nine, his mum met a really awesome guy named Jin who had just moved to Australia from Korea. He didn't know all that much English, but Ben and his mother helped to teach him enough for him to get a job. He was an extremely fast learner and before long he was fluent in the language, with only a bit of an accent. Having gone to university, he was employed by a prestigious mechanics company. He was good to Ben and his mum, and when Benny was twelve (also when he got his first job), they moved in with him and Jane and Jin married not long after. A year or so later, his half sister Jenny was born. This was about the time his prankster side came out in school. After several notes home, his mother realised something needed to be done. He was already playing football after school, which he enjoyed, but it obviously wasn't enough to drain his energy and keep him focused on schoolwork.

Seeing his interest in an old western movie they had once rented, she took him to a horse farm, not far from town. He'd gotten along well with the horses and though he thought riding was sort of girly, he did go to lessons when he saw it made his mother happy. In the end it sort of grew on him. He was good with animals, and the horses liked them. Before long, he was helping to start the young horses. He quit his job at the auto-shop and was hired as a stablehand. One of the foals he was going to start grew on him before she'd even left her mother, and he bought the little mare when she was just nine months older, for about 300 bucks. She wasn't a planned birth, or from good lines. She was just the by-product of a stallion escaping from his paddock one night.

Insisting that his skill with horses was a gift he couldn't throw away, he was sent to America and New Moon when he had enough money, taking his filly with him.

appearance: Jinxi looks just like an average horse. Kind scruffy, not the nicest shape to her. She does have a fairly pretty face though, a long, thick mane and tail. When she moves, she often looks strikingly like a paso fino, but there's no chance of that in her lineage. Her coat is usually much paler in winter, and rather scruffy, but in summer she gleams a deep metallic gold, although she loves to get muddy so you might not see her true colour much.

personality: This little mare is about the smartest thing ever. She can learn tricks in minutes, and if you aren't teaching her something, she'll teach herself, such as how to get out of the stall even if it's got three bolts and is wired shut. She likes open spaces and isn't too fond of stalls, and is very amiable and friendly with both horses and people alike, but first impressions are important. Careful, she holds grudges.

history: Her father decided to be adventurous and leap out of his pasture one night, trotting a mile or so to the neighbour's farm and jumping in to one pasture where Holly, Jinx's mother, was in heat. Next morning, the stallion was promptly removed, but the damage had been done and Jinx was born almost a year later. She was not from promising parents and the stable didn't have much hope for her, but they would train her and sell her all the same. Ben was there at her birth and had taken a shine to her from day one, and bought her as soon as he could. She's been with him ever since.
